“Companions” 16x20, oil on Linen

Squash and Nasturtiums are known to be great garden companions. I planted these side-by-side and they made me proud. They were also quite tasty. My photo of them just had to be painted. Set on a background of purple mixed with burnt Sienna, the soft gold hues of the butternut squash seem to vibrate. This original still life painting, in the style of “Chiaroscuro” was painted in the traditional style of the Old Masters over a “grisaille” base.
